How To Heal Cracked Corners of Mouth

When the skin on the corner of the mouth is cracked, it is medically referred to as Angular cheilitis, which is the inflammatory lesion that can occur in one corner or both corners or angles of mouth. The cracks are annoying and unattractive that can make the mouth painful to eat, smile, talk or any other mouth activities. Luckily it is not contagious and doesn’t spread to other parts of the body. The condition is often accompanied by itching, burning and tingling sensation, blister formation, bleeding when opening the mouth, oozing, crusting and scaling.

The condition can be the reason for embarrassment and discomfort for the sufferer. Stop hiding it with the scarf and mask and get rid of it with the following natural remedies that can heal Angular Cheilitis .

  1. Ease the discomfort with Cucumber

Cucumber contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that soothe irritation and inflammation. It also help moisturize the skin as it contains excessive fluid.  To benefit from cooling and soothing effect of cucumber, put refrigerated slice of fresh cucumber on those burning and painful cracks then you will get immediate relief. Do this at least twice a day until you see an improvement.

    2.Apply Cocoa butter

Cocoa butter is awesome natural moisturizer that can repair cracked corners of mouth. Its emollient properties help retain the moisture in the affected area. It contains saturated fats that are well absorbed and stay for longer time on the skin which in turn speed up the healing process. Apply small amount of pure cocoa butter on the affected area in the morning, during day time and in the evening before going to bed  daily.

3. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is an amazing plant that is used to treat different skin conditions because of its healing and moisturizing properties. All you have to do is, take aloe leaf and put it in refrigerator for 1hr before applying, then gently rub it on the affected area for 10 minutes. Avoid aggressive rubbing as it makes the condition worse. Leave the smear for 20 minutes, then wash off with lukewarm water.

3. Honey

This natural healer owns antibacterial and antifungal properties that avoid the occurrence of infection on the problem area.  Put some honey on your finger and apply it directly on the area or coat the affected part with honey and leave it for overnight to provide moisture to the area. Honey can prevent scar formation.

4. Maintain a balance of fluid    

Dehydration can cause dry lips which in turn leads to cracked corners of mouth due to constant licking of those dry lips to moisten them. So the best way to avoid this condition is drinking enough water each day as it keeps your body well hydrated.

5. Fix the deficiency

The dietary deficiency such as, iron, vitamins especially, B-vitamins, may cause cracked skin in the mouth corners. They can be fixed easily by consuming:

  • B-Vitamin rich foods
  • Food that contains iron
  • Food  high in zinc; zinc also promotes the healing process of the condition.
